NUL background
National University of Lesotho (NUL) is located at Roma campus site of the former UBLS in Maseru district about 34 kilometers from Capital city of Lesotho, Maseru. The university was established on October in 1975 by the Lesotho Interim National Assembly through Act No. 13 of 1975. NUL is the proud heir of Plus XII University College, UBBS and UBLS. The commencement of the courses is on August each year for new intake.
NUL Faculties
The university offers about seven faculties, Faculty of Agrigulture, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Science and Technology and Faculty of Social Sciences.
Faculty of Agricutlture
This faculty was established in 1977 but was implemented in 1990 and its first intake was in 1991 which was taken in August on the same year. It is intended to produce indeviduals who are able to effectively engage in agricultural production, research, education and extension services that yield relavant solutions to agricultural and rural development problems and improve agricultural productivity.
Faculty of Education
This faculty was established in 1967 to produce relevantly qualified and competent teachers and offer education professionals for all types and levels of education primary, secondary and tertiary and is the largest of all university faculties.
Faculty of Education Departments
The faculty has three different departments [1] Department of Educational Foundations (EDF), [2] Languages and Social Education Department (LASED) and [3] Department of Science Education (Science Ed).
Faculty of Health Science
This faculty is meant to produce health manpower necessary for the delivery of health services throughout the country of Lesotho. Globally, issues pertaining to health workforce are high in the agenda. Emerging health problems such as HIV/AIDS.
Faculty of Health Science Departments
The faculty has only four departments [1] Viz-Nursing, [2] Pharmacy, [3] Environmental Health and [4] Nutrition. Faculty of Health Science is the smallest of the faculties in the university.
Faculty of LAW
This faculty was taught early in 1965 focused on incorporating law into the mainstream of socio-economic, political and other developments and then in 1981 the faculty was again necessitated by the expanding demand for lawyers in the country at the time. The consensus was that the law curriculum was highly specialized and, therefore, required a fully fledged Faculty of Law in order to undertake the composite training of lawyers.
Faculty of Science and Technology
One of the faculty objectives is to provide training in basic sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics, Physics) and also in Applied sciences and Engineering (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Chemical Technology, Electronics, Information Systems, Biotechnology, Environmental Science) for students interested in obtaining B.Sc or B.Eng. degrees and employments in these fields.
Faculty of Science and Technology Departments
This faculty has five departments [1] Biology, [2] Chemistry and Chemical Technology, [3] Geography and Environmental Science, [4] Mathematics and Computer Science and [5] Physics and Electronics.
Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS)
This faculty is the largest of all faculties in the university and is the study of society and the manner in which people behave and influence the world around them. It seeks to draw attention to problem areas and alternative courses of action within society itself, it also provides vital information to government and policy makers, local authorities, non-governmental organizations and others.
Faculty of Social Sciences Departments
The faculty consists of five departments Viz, Business Administration; Economics; Political & Administrative Studies; Sociology, Anthropology & Social Work; and Statistics & Demography.
